Hotel & Airline Credit Card
A credit card for a specific airline or hotel will earn points for that airline or hotel only. Airline and Hotel credit cards may also offer a sign up bonus with a specified amount to spend within a specific timeframe.
Examples:
- Hilton American Express will earn Hilton points NOT American Express Membership Rewards.
- Chase Marriott Visa will earn Marriott points, NOT Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
Rakuten
Rakuten is a shopping platform that provides either Cash back or AMEX Membership Rewards to users who shop through their site and app. It works by partnering with over 3,500 stores, and when a user makes a purchase through Rakuten's links, the store pays Rakuten a commission, which Rakuten them shares with the user as cash back or AMEX Rewards.

How to earn points & miles
Here is how I started....
* Chase Sapphire Reserve -
I got this card in 2018 when it had a sign up bonus of 80,000 points. I kept using this card on my travel and monthly spend. Depending on how you use your card, you can get multipliers. Some charges can get 2x/3x/4x which boosts your points. The Sapphire has so many other benefits including the Priority Pass Lounge at many airports.
* American Airlines Mastercard -
I was traveling for business on AA. On the flight they offered a special promo if you applied for the card. Just charge one item (pack of gum) and you would get 60,000 points. I applied two years ago and received the points. I used the card for dining and did a couple of surveys to get a total of 65,000 points. Here is what I was able to get with those points:
Two one way tickets from Orlando to Barcelona Spain for just the taxes of $5.60 per ticket
One ticket from Madrid to Orlando for just the taxes of $46.00
* Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card -
I have been flying SW for many years because they have been a hub where I have lived. It was easy to use their credit card and rack up points when traveling.
***REMEMBER - If traveling for business, use your credit card whenever possible if getting reimbursed by your company.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS get a loyalty number for any airline or hotel you are using for business. You will receive those points and miles!!
